This month we focus on one of the most overlooked security issues today: Passwords. Weak passwords, password re-use, and passwords written on sticky notes attached to monitors can all lead to identity theft, data loss, and monetary loss. Fortunately, Jerry Glacken and Bruce Mittelman will be showing 2 programs which can help you begin using and managing unique, strong passwords on every website you visit. Jerry will be giving a demonstration of 1Password, the password manager that goes beyond simple password storage by integrating directly with your web browser to automatically log you into websites, enter credit card information, fill registration forms, and easily generate unique strong passwords for every account you have. With 1Password you don't have to worry about trying to memorize all the different passwords, you just have to remember your 1 master password. And Bruce will be showcasing LastPass, the cloud-based password manager and form filler that makes web browsing easier and more secure. Like 1Password, LastPass helps you create strong passwords for all of your accounts and makes logging into a web site as simple as a single click of your mouse button. And with LastPass your passwords are securely synchronized across all of your computers, phones and other devices enabling you to access them from anywhere at anytime.
For the last presentation of the meeting, Scott Alenick will give an in-depth presentation of Dragon Dictate for Mac, the application which allows you to turn your speech to text using the Dragon speech recognition engine. With an accuracy rate of 99% out of the box, Dragon Dictate allows you to work faster sending e-mail replies, creating reports, and taking notes. You can even create commands that automate workflows and interact with your favorite applications using only your voice.
